LifeWaters program is designed to help improve the lives of our disabled Veterans by offering discover scuba and scuba certifications through Scuba Diving International (SDI) and Handicap Scuba Association (HSA). The program is run by dedicated staff of SCI Therapists who are passionate about helping our Veterans in the sport of diving.
LifeWaters is based at St. Louis. MO Jefferson Barracks VA Medical Center (Spinal Cord Injury Unit) and is the first internally run disabled scuba program in the entire US VA medical system. LifeWaters offers Open Water Certifications to our Veterans who receive medical services at the VA Medical Center. Most of our divers are within the Spinal Cord Injury Service line which also includes 5 surrounding states providing exposure to over 3000 SCI Veterans. We currently have over 150 SCI Veterans who are signed up for this program at this time. Our program encompasses all Veterans including OIF (Operation Iraqi Freedom) & OEF (Operation Enduring Freedom). Our current Dive Buddy Team includes various MD’s, Nurses, Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapists and Recreation Therapists who are involved at all levels of rehab for our Veterans. We are very proud to be able to serve our Veterans who have sacrificed so much for us. Our goal is to provide at no cost to our Veterans Discover Scuba sessions and also Open Water Certifications while using the Jefferson Barracks Therapy swim pool and completing our OW certifications at Mermet Springs in Metropolis IL.
